Straubing kicks off again after a short break – Exacta and Trifecta jackpots
The wait is over: after the gates of Straubing racecourse closed following a successful winter meeting, racing returns on Saturday, April 18. A total of eight exciting races are scheduled from 12:45 pm. Bettors can look forward to an Exacta jackpot of €437.25 in race 2 and a Trifecta jackpot of €1,353.79 in race 8.

Race 1
With Karin Walter-Mommert sending more of her large string to Bavaria, runners from the major owner are becoming a more frequent sight in Straubing. That is also the case in the opener. Carrie B. (Josef Franzl) lines up as the favorite after a successful re-qualification. The well-bred mare has already shown her ability. She faces the speedy Romashka (Georg Bachmeier), while El Chapo (Andreas Geineder) could complete the trio. The V3, with a €1,000 guaranteed pool, starts here.
Our pick:
(2) Carrie B. – (6) Romashka – (4) El Chapo
Race 2
You can confidently build your Exacta in race 2 around Valesco (Christoph Schwarz). If he stays flat, he will be hard to beat. Crema di Nocci (Andreas Geineder) was selected by the trainer and can play a major role from a good draw. Stablemate D Day As (Martin Geineder), returning from a short break, also has claims.
Our pick:
(3) Valesco – (2) Crema di Nocci – (6) D Day As
Race 3
After a series of solid placings, Golda Meir (Christoph Schwarz) looks ready to score. The opposition appears manageable. Final Embrace (Robert Pletschacher) made a promising debut and could benefit from stable form. Simply Joker (Marisa Bock) is a contender if avoiding mistakes, while Frank Jet (Andreas Geineder) can capitalize on his reliability.
Our pick:
(7) Golda Meir – (2) Final Embrace – (1) Simply Joker
Race 4:
George Gently Mo (Lena Franzl), formerly trained by the Hauber family, makes his Bavarian debut. It will be interesting to see how the six-year-old performs in his new surroundings. This race features amateurs and young drivers. Aconcagua makes his first start for the experienced Lasse Grundhöfer and clearly has the class, though he returns from a break. If Jimbo des Iles (Tobias Mehlsteibl) stays flat, he could even win. Kador du Choquel (Ferdinand Veit) is always good for a surprise, while Gamin de Bertrange (Julia Wiesner) is a reliable contender for the placings. The Superfecta is offered here.
Our pick:
(4) Aconcagua – (5) George Gently Mo – (2) Jimbo des Iles
Race 5:
Karin Walter-Mommert fields a strong trio in race 5. Two are trained by Josef Franzl, who drives Lumière de Chartres, while his daughter Lena partners Mr. Sheffield Mo, with whom she already finished second. Both have leading chances. The third runner, Wingback Design (Christoph Fischer), trained by Manfred Schub, delivers consistent performances. Despite a poor draw, Gazzaladra Font (Christoph Schwarz) could surprise and looks the main danger to the Walter-Mommert runners. Great Darkness Fire (Robert Pletschacher) is another contender if behaving well.
Our pick:
(2) Mr. Sheffield Mo – (3) Lumière de Chartres – (8) Gazzaladra Font
Race 6:
Among the amateurs, Ocean Eyes (Stefan Hiendlmeier) deserves another win after a series of strong performances. He has to overcome a handicap at the tapes and faces Dafna (Renate Lindinger) and Marilyn Boko (Dr. Conny Schulz). The winner is likely to come from this trio. This race also kicks off the V3 finale with a €1,000 guaranteed pool.
Our pick:
(7) Ocean Eyes – (2) Dafna – (1) Marilyn Boko
Race 7
Lasse Grundhöfer is back in the sulky for Karin Walter-Mommert with Joie de Vivre. She faces an easier task than in Berlin but meets the classy Wyanet (Stefan Hiendlmeier), who returns from a break after competing at filly derby level last year. If she is fully fit and stays flat, she could take this. Fast starter Vaiana (Herbert Lorenz) may surprise, making this a race that could go to a mare. For the Superfecta, include Jerry Box (Ferdinand Veit) and the reliable Lady Million (Tobias Mehlsteibl), now in a new yard.
Our pick:
(8) Wyanet – (4) Joie de Vivre – (5) Vaiana
Race 8
Full focus on race 8, where the Trifecta jackpot is up for grabs. The outcome could be decided early, as Billy Kimber (Peter Platzer), My Way Fortuna (Lasse Grundhöfer), and Augustiner (Dr. Conny Schulz) are all quick starters and would prefer to race prominently. A strong early pace could set things up for Miss Red Lady (Stefan Hiendlmeier), who appears to have overcome her health issues.
Our pick:
(5) Billy Kimber – (6) Miss Red Lady – (2) My Way Fortuna
